BENSON – David H. Ivey, 82, died Tuesday evening at his home near Benson after a long period of ill-health.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at Hannah’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church of which he had been a member for the past 12 years. Interment was in the church cemetery.

A son of the late Vine and Nicey Ivey of Johnston County, Mr. Ivey is survived by six children, Dewey of Dunn, Duffy, Delbert, David, Mrs. Lovie Pope, and Mrs. Nicy Allen, all of the Benson community. Surviving also are three sisters, Mrs. M. L. Pope, Mrs. W. L. Johnson, Mrs. J. N. Norris; 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Nettie Parrish Ivey, 93, of Four Oaks died Monday at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was born Dec. 1, 1908, in Johnston County to the late Peter Lawrence and Mary Frances Parrish.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Duffie T. Ivey; and daughters Alie Mae Ivey and Geraldine McLamb. Funeral services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Minshew Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hannah’s Creek Church Cemetery.

Man Killed When Car Falls on Him

David O. Ivey, 56-year-old farmer of Route 3, Benson, was killed Friday afternoon when an automobile on which he was working fell from a jack onto him and crushed the upper portion of his body. Coroner V. J. Underwood ruled the death an accident and said no inquest is planned.

Mr. Ivey was a native of Johnston County. He was a son of the late David H. and Ava Tart Ivey. The funeral was conducted at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon at Rose Funeral Chapel in Benson. Elder Lester Lee officiated. Interment was in Devotional Gardens in Dunn.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lela Ivey; two daughters, Mrs. Faith Lee and Mrs. Elaine Creech, both of Raleigh; three sons, Donald M. Ivey of the home and Julius A. and Delma H. John David Ivey Sr., 74, of 2674 N.C. 50 South, Benson, died Monday, July 16, 2007. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Wood Ivey; his parents, Delbert Allen and Aldonia Beasley Ivey; and a son, Lea Jacob Ivey.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at West & Dunn Funeral Home Chapel in Benson by the Revs. Calvin Levitt and Ronnie LeFevers. Burial will be at Banner Chapel Advent Christian Church Cemetery.

Survivors include a son, John D. Ivey of Benson; sisters, Louise Tanner and Joyce Morgan, both of Benson; and a brother, Rayford Ivey of Garner.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Delma Henry Ivey, 63, of 3604 W. Mill Forest Court, Raleigh, died Sunday after a battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

He was born April 30, 1941, to the late David O. and Lela Lee Ivey of Benson. A utility contractor in the Raleigh area since 1978, Mr. Ivey along with his sons owned and operated Ivey Utilities.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Midway Baptist Church, where he was a member for many years. Interment will follow at Devotional Gardens in Dunn.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Wood Ivey; sons, Jerry M. Ivey and wife Kim, and Jason D. Ivey of the home; a daughter, Sherri Hill and husband Victor of Willow Spring; granddaughters, Amanda and Morgan Ivey, Melissa Gurley and Amanda H. Hallock; brothers, Donald Ivey and wife Jean of Dunn, Julius Ivey and wife Faye of Raleigh; and sisters, Elaine Ivey Creech and husband Charles of Lumberton, Faith Ivey Dean and husband Ron of Wallace

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner.
